Nigel Huddleston’s visit to Sutton Hoo was part of his two-day tour of the region, organised by Visit East of England, which also the National Horseracing Museum at Newmarket, Southwold Pier, Adnams Brewery, Bury St Edmunds and the Suffolk Food Hall and Snape Maltings.

Jim from Screen Suffolk met Nigel at Sutton Hoo to discuss the power of screen tourism.  The story of Sutton Hoo is famously re-told in The Dig the film starring Ralph Fiennes and Carey Mulligan.  As Jim explained the impact of seeing Suffolk on screen was instant.  Traffic to tourism websites such as The Suffolk Coast and Visit Suffolk grew threefold in the week following the film’s release on Netflix.

The rise of staycations in recent years highlights the importance of film production with regards to tourism and Screen Suffolk are proud to work with all tourism institutions in the county.  We also list all the locations on the Nigel Huddleston’s tour as filming locations so if anyone would like to film with them it’s easy to arrange via us.
